The decision represents a significant political bet by the party, which is building its midterm strategy around the president rather than limiting his role to the broader Republican campaign.
Speaking to France 24 International, Todd Belt, director of the Political Management Programme at George Washington University, said Trump “believes in the power of his own charisma”.
