Tampa Bay opened its American League Division Series with a win over the New York Yankees, backed by a near no-hitter from Drew Rasmussen.

Rasmussen allowed one hit and two walks and struck out 10 across eight innings. The lone hit came from Austin Wells, whose double was followed by an unsuccessful attempt to reach third.

Jonathan Aranda’s home run in the third inning supplied the game’s only run. The Rays did not need further offence as Rasmussen limited New York’s opportunities.

The Yankees entered the series after sweeping Boston in a best-of-three Wild Card Series earlier in the week, according to Fox Sports.

Game 2 was scheduled for Monday night in Tampa Bay. Fox Sports reported Cam Schlittler was due to start for New York, while the Rays had not announced a starter.
