Rangers’ 3-0 win over Celtic sends McInnes into first Old Firm semi-final
Rangers reached the Scottish League Cup semi-finals with a decisive victory over Celtic at Ibrox, in a fixture played without visiting supporters.
Rangers defeated Celtic 3-0 in the first Old Firm derby of the season, securing a place in the Scottish League Cup semi-finals and giving manager Derek McInnes his first victory over the club’s city rivals.
Dan Neil scored twice for Rangers, with newly signed Kevin Kelsy also finding the net. The result was Celtic’s first domestic defeat of the season.
Celtic supporters were barred from attending the fixture following a Scottish league review of disorder during the teams’ Scottish Cup quarter-final in March. The Associated Press report carried by Yahoo Sports said there were no immediate reports of disorder from the latest encounter.
The result sends Rangers into a semi-final against Aberdeen. Hearts will face Hibernian in the other tie, with both matches scheduled for the weekend of 31 October and 1 November.
Celtic had also been eliminated from the Champions League qualifying playoffs by Austrian club LASK. Rangers are due to visit Celtic next Sunday in the Scottish Premier League, while the League Cup final is scheduled for 13 December.
