Rams’ McDuffie and Nacua secure top-10 spots in The Athletic’s young player rankings
Trent McDuffie and Puka Nacua have been identified as elite prospects in The Athletic’s latest ranking of the league’s top 25 players aged 25 and under, highlighting the Los Angeles Rams’ depth in young talent.
The Los Angeles Rams have placed two players in the top 10 of The Athletic’s ranking for the NFL’s best players aged 25 and under. The list, which serves as a benchmark for emerging talent, was compiled by polling nearly two dozen coaches, scouts, and front office members across the league.
Cornerback Trent McDuffie was ranked fifth on the list, while wide receiver Puka Nacua was placed eighth. McDuffie’s position is supported by a combination of elite speed, evidenced by a 4.4-second 40-yard dash, and consistent defensive production. He allows just 6.2 yards per target and has recorded eight forced fumbles, a figure that leads all cornerbacks since 2022. Additionally, the All-Pro averages 61.5 tackles per season.
Nacua, a two-time Pro Bowl selection in his third season, earned his eighth-place ranking following a standout previous campaign. In that season, he led the NFL in catches with 129, first-down receptions with 80, and yards per game with 107.2. His performance included 1,715 receiving yards, marking his second 1,400-plus-yard season in three years.
The ranking also included Jared Verse, who was recently traded by the Rams during the offseason. Verse was placed 20th on the list, one spot ahead of quarterback Caleb Williams. The Rams acquired defensive end Myles Garrett in the trade involving Verse, a move that has been viewed as a significant acquisition of veteran talent.
This recognition follows the Rams’ recent appearance on CBS Sports’ list of the 30 best players aged 30 and over, where the team placed three players. The combination of high-ranking veterans and young stars has led to significant media sentiment regarding the team’s competitive standing for the upcoming season.
