Mahomes returns as Chiefs defeat Broncos 31-10
Patrick Mahomes threw two touchdown passes and ran for another as Kansas City ended its three-game losing streak against Denver.
Patrick Mahomes marked his return from knee surgery by leading the Kansas City Chiefs to a 31-10 win over the Denver Broncos on Monday night.
Mahomes threw for 184 yards and two touchdowns, while also running for a score. Kenneth Walker III carried the greater share of Kansas City’s ground attack on his Chiefs debut, rushing for 173 yards and two touchdowns from 23 carries.
Walker also caught three passes for 18 yards, producing the most rushing yards by a Chiefs player since Jamaal Charles ran for 226 yards in 2012, according to Sky Sports. His performance helped Kansas City end a three-game losing streak against Denver.
The Broncos finished with 176 total yards. Bo Nix threw for 131 yards, an interception and lost a fumble, while Denver’s only touchdown came on a 19-yard pass to Evan Engram.
Kansas City led 14-7 at half-time before Walker extended the advantage with a 60-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Mahomes later connected with Travis Kelce for a 59-yard gain, setting up a Harrison Butker field goal, before Nix’s fumble helped the Chiefs secure the result.
