Rain delays England’s bid to seal Test series clean sweep
Pakistan resume on 52-2 after England secured a 320-run first-innings lead at Edgbaston.
Rain halted England’s push for a rapid victory over Pakistan in the third Test at Edgbaston, leaving the tourists 52-2 at the close of play on day two.
England had earlier reached 453, establishing a first-innings lead of 320 after Harry Brook made 75, Jamie Smith 69, Dan Lawrence 65 and Ollie Robinson 50. Pakistan were dismissed for 133 in their opening innings, with Josh Tongue taking 4-42.
Robinson then claimed both wickets to fall, reducing Pakistan to 0-2 before Azan Awais and Shan Masood stabilised the innings. Pakistan remain 268 runs from making England bat again.
Rain stopped play for the second and final time at 17:07 BST. Smith, who bruised a finger, did not keep wicket, with Jordan Cox deputising.
Play is scheduled to resume on Friday. England won the first two Tests and are seeking a 3-0 series victory, although the result remains undecided.
