Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman has been ruled out of The Hundred tournament after sustaining a grade 1 muscle tear in his right hamstring and meniscal degeneration in his right knee. The injury, which occurred during the opening One Day International of Bangladesh’s tour of Zimbabwe, will sideline the left-arm pacer for four weeks.
Rahman, who was contracted by Birmingham Phoenix for a base fee of GBP 100,000, was set to become the first Bangladeshi cricketer to feature in the English competition. He bowled six overs in the series opener against Zimbabwe, conceding 19 runs, before leaving the field due to discomfort. He has subsequently been ruled out of the second ODI.
Birmingham Phoenix have confirmed that a replacement player will be announced to fill the vacancy in their squad. The franchise is scheduled to begin their campaign against the Trent Rockets on Friday, July 24, with the broader tournament running from July 21 to August 16 across England.
The injury marks a setback for Rahman, who had only recently returned from another knee injury sustained earlier in 2026. The timing of the setback coincides with a period of squad adjustments for Zimbabwe, who called up Innocent Kaia to replace Milton Shumba, who was ruled out with a hamstring injury prior to the series.
While the four-week ruling provides a baseline for his recovery, the exact timeline for his return to full fitness remains unspecified. Birmingham Phoenix are now managing the logistical challenge of integrating a new player into their setup just days before their opening fixture.
