Rahm keeps LIV Golf future open amid funding uncertainty
Jon Rahm has declined to confirm whether he will remain with LIV Golf or return to the PGA Tour as uncertainty surrounds the league’s financing and operations.
Jon Rahm says he remains uncertain about LIV Golf’s future after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund withdrew financial backing, declining to confirm whether he could return to the PGA Tour.
Speaking to BBC Sport NI before this week’s Irish Open at Doonbeg in County Clare, Rahm said his position had not changed since a previous interview. “There’s just a lot of things in place,” he said. “Time’s gonna tell.”
Rahm said he was “pretty good at dealing with turbulence” after joining LIV, but did not indicate whether he expected to stay with the breakaway tour. Asked about a possible route back to the PGA Tour, he said: “We’ll see what happens.”
LIV’s 2026 season ended earlier than planned after its team championship in Detroit was cancelled. The tour recently said it was “scaling back operations”, while some employees were reportedly laid off. LIV has also secured an unnamed lead investor for 2027 and beyond, according to the source material, but its future structure and schedule remain unclear.
Rahm will play the Irish Open and next week’s BMW PGA Championship under a DP World Tour agreement that currently applies only for 2026. He has won the Irish Open twice, in 2017 and 2019, and enters the tournament after claiming two victories during the 2026 LIV season.
