Paris Saint-Germain began their Champions League title defence with a 6–1 win over Slovan Bratislava on Wednesday, putting their pursuit of a third consecutive title on an emphatic footing.
Ousmane Dembele scored twice and created two goals for Ferran Torres, who completed a hat-trick on his European debut for PSG. Fabian Ruiz scored the club’s other goal, while Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue began the match on the bench.
PSG coach Luis Enrique described Dembele’s performance as “marvellous” after the forward returned to limited action while rebuilding his fitness following the World Cup. Enrique also praised Dembele’s ability to create chances, press and contribute to the team.
Enrique said Slovan coach Yaya Toure’s side had tried to play despite the result. Toure, the former Ivory Coast, Barcelona and Manchester City midfielder, led Slovan through three qualifying rounds into the Champions League league phase.
