Pleasant Grove maintains undefeated start with victory over Timpanogos

Pleasant Grove secured a 2-0 away victory against Timpanogos in Spanish Fork, preserving an undefeated 4-0 record for the season. The result was driven by a pair of goals from Indee Morris, a junior who recently returned to the area from Florida and has established herself as the team’s leading scorer with six goals this season.

Morris opened the scoring in the 16th minute, breaking away from the defence to find the back of the net, and extended the lead in the 67th minute. Her performance has placed her on the early statewide leading scorer leaderboard, with head coach Matt Embley describing her as a "force to be reckoned with" who consistently draws double and triple teams.

Despite the comfortable margin, Pleasant Grove faced significant pressure from Timpanogos, who created multiple scoring opportunities. The Timberwolves saw a shot from Maddi Searle strike the crossbar from 30 yards out, while Samantha Young missed a chip attempt after catching the goalkeeper out of position.

Pleasant Grove goalkeeper Savanna Facer was instrumental in maintaining the clean sheet, making two key saves in the first half to neutralise early threats. Embley noted that while the defence showed potential, the team remained focused on generating energy through set pieces, winning two corner kicks within the first five minutes of play.

The head coach emphasised the tactical importance of creating momentum, even when direct scoring opportunities from corners did not materialise. "Even if you don’t score those, you create energy, and you create that positivity to want to go and do it again," Embley said, pointing to the team’s cohesion and defensive discipline as key factors in the win.

Morris credited the team’s supportive environment for her success, stating, "Without them, I definitely wouldn’t have scored my goals." The Vikings now turn their attention to a non-region fixture against Layton on Thursday before opening region play against Springville.
