Patrick Ricard helped the New York Giants impose their preferred style in a 28–20 victory over the Dallas Cowboys, taking on a prominent blocking role in an offence built around physicality.

Ricard played 37 offensive snaps as the Giants ran 37 times for 165 yards and controlled possession for 36:40. His contribution came largely through clearing running lanes and protecting quarterback Jaxson Dart rather than handling the ball.

The 300-pound fullback joined New York in free agency after nine seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, following coach John Harbaugh to the Giants. Harbaugh has described Ricard’s responsibilities as part of the team’s offensive system and broader identity.

“There’s a lot of things that Pat can do that nobody else can do,” Harbaugh said, praising Ricard’s versatility and distinctive value to the offence.

Known as “Pancake Pat”, Ricard has played defensive line, offence and special teams. He recorded a career-high 698 offensive snaps for Baltimore in 2022, but played 274 snaps last season.

Ricard has rarely carried or caught the ball, with 11 career regular-season carries and 49 receptions. He said his priority is blocking and imposing his will on defences, rather than demanding opportunities as a receiver or runner.
