Oregon faces coaching search after Altman’s retirement
Tony Stubblefield will serve as interim coach as the university begins a national search. Fox Sports has floated several possible candidates, but none are confirmed finalists.

Dana Altman has retired as Oregon’s basketball coach after 16 seasons. Assistant Tony Stubblefield was named interim coach, and athletics director Rob Mullens said the university would conduct a national search.
The transition comes with the season less than a month away, according to Fox Sports. The report says Oregon’s roster includes nine transfers and two freshmen recruited by Altman, with players eligible to enter the transfer portal in 31 days.
Fox Sports outlined five potential candidates, naming Josh Schertz, Eric Olen and Stubblefield in the available report. The excerpt does not identify the other two, and the names presented are suggestions rather than confirmed finalists.
Schertz’s record includes three seasons at Indiana State and two at Saint Louis. Fox Sports highlighted his fast-paced approach and noted he has not held a high-major head coaching job.
Olen went 26-11 in his first season at New Mexico after 12 seasons at UC San Diego, the report said. Stubblefield, who returned to Oregon as an assistant in 2024, previously spent 11 seasons on Altman’s staff and went 30-66 in three seasons as DePaul’s head coach.
