Broadcaster Mike Breen has apologised for repeating an unverified account that Joel Embiid arrived late to practice and LeBron James called him out.

Breen shared the anecdote during a preseason broadcast of the Knicks and 76ers, saying someone had told him Embiid came on to the court a couple of minutes late before practice.

James disputed the account on Instagram, writing that Embiid “ain’t been late so stop the lies”.

Speaking to ESPN, Breen said he believed James’s denial and apologised for putting the story out. He said the account had come from someone he trusted, but the source was not identified.

Breen also said he regretted naming Embiid, adding that he had not considered that the player’s identity would draw attention to the story. The supplied material does not independently verify whether the practice incident occurred.
