Oregon Ducks face early-season setback as Jordon Davison suffers collarbone injury
The potential re-break of a previous injury threatens Oregon’s offensive balance ahead of the Big Ten season, with the team hoping for a faster recovery than projected.

Oregon Ducks running back Jordon Davison has sustained a collarbone injury during fall camp, a development that could sideline him for six to eight weeks and jeopardise his availability for the start of the 2026 college football season. The injury is reported as a possible re-break of a collarbone he suffered last season, according to a report by 247Sports on Wednesday afternoon.
Davison missed the Ducks’ College Football Playoff semifinal round loss to the Indiana Hoosiers last season due to a broken collarbone, raising concerns about the durability of the backfield. While the initial medical timeline suggests a significant absence, there is reported hope within the Oregon camp that Davison could return sooner than the projected eight-week window.
The injury presents a notable disruption to Oregon’s offensive planning for the 2026 campaign. Davison, who was a true freshman in 2025, rushed for 667 yards and 15 touchdowns at an average of 5.9 yards per carry. His production led the Ducks and tied for second in the Big Ten, with the running back scoring in 10 of the 14 games he played.
With lead back Noah Whittington having moved to the NFL, Davison was projected to form a primary running back duo with fellow sophomore Dierre Hill Jr. Hill Jr. rushed for 656 yards and five touchdowns on 8.7 yards per carry in 2025, providing a complementary skill set to Davison’s volume-based approach.
Oregon’s offensive unit finished second in the Big Ten in total yards and points in 2025, while ranking third in rushing yards. The team returns junior quarterback Dante Moore, who would have potentially been a top-10 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft had he declared. The Ducks are scheduled to open the 2026 season at home against the Boise State Broncos on 5 September, with their Big Ten season opener against the USC Trojans on 26 September.
