OpenLogi Launches as Privacy-Focused Alternative to Logitech Options+
Developers have released OpenLogi, an open-source tool designed to replace Logitech’s official software suite by handling HID++ commands directly on the device.
OpenLogi has been released as a native, local-first alternative to Logitech Options+, offering users a privacy-centric method to configure Logitech peripherals. Written in Rust, the application allows users to remap buttons, adjust DPI settings, and control SmartShift functionality via the HID++ protocol without requiring a user account or transmitting telemetry data.
The software is licensed under the MIT and Apache-2.0 licences and is not affiliated with Logitech. It supports devices connected via Logi Bolt, Unifying, or Lightspeed receivers, as well as direct Bluetooth pairing and USB cables. Configuration bindings are stored in a local TOML file, ensuring that user settings remain on the device rather than in the cloud.
OpenLogi features an interactive interface with clickable hotspots for action selection, allowing users to bind any of 44 built-in actions to physical buttons. Additional capabilities include custom shortcuts, app launchers, scripted actions, and per-application overlays that automatically switch based on the focused application. Users can also manage pointer resolution, cycle presets, and configure the scroll wheel’s ratchet or free-spin modes.
Signed builds are available for macOS, Linux, and Windows, with installation via Homebrew recommended for macOS users. The software supports Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, while Linux users can access .deb, .rpm, and .pkg.tar.zst packages. Windows support includes signed x86_64 and arm64 installers validated on Windows 11.
Users are advised to quit Logi Options+ before launching OpenLogi on macOS and Windows to avoid conflicts over HID++ access, as only one application can control a receiver at a time. A similar conflict applies to Solaar on Linux. The initial release does not specify a version number, and compatibility with older mouse models or the full extent of SmartShift support across all devices remains unspecified.
