Oklahoma Coaches Association golf event concludes in historic tie

The Oklahoma Coaches Association 2026 high school All-State golf event concluded in a historic tie for the first time in its history. Held at KickingBird Golf Club in Edmond, the West and East teams each finished with a cumulative score of 24. The event, which is a match-play tournament where scores from the boys’ and girls’ teams are added to a cumulative total, marked the final day of the 2026 All-State athletic week that began on Monday across the state.

While the overall event ended in a draw, the West boys’ team defeated the East 13½-10½, and the East girls’ team won by the same margin. The structure of the tournament requires the aggregation of individual match results to determine the final standing between the two regional squads.

Notable performances included Heritage Hall’s Gabriella Gross and Edmond North’s Abbie Justiz, who played together for the West team. They earned three points against the East duo of Nikki Pitts from Stillwater and Kodee Bearpaw-Pritchett from Sequoyah-Tahlequah, who earned one point. Gross, who was named The Oklahoman’s All-City Golfer of the Year and tied for second at the Class 3A state tournament in May, noted that the brutal heat made the event challenging.

Gross, a Jacksonville University signee who has chosen not to play college golf, described the event as a special final team experience. She highlighted the value of the team aspect, stating that she enjoyed competing with high-calibre players one last time. Justiz, also a Jacksonville University signee, contributed to the West team’s performance alongside Gross.

The 2026 All-State athletic week included other competitions such as basketball and football recruiting series. The golf event’s conclusion in a tie represents a unique outcome in the history of the Oklahoma Coaches Association’s annual high school All-State athletic events.
