Norway holds Oslo funeral procession for King Harald V

Norway has held a public funeral procession for King Harald V, with thousands gathering along Oslo’s streets as his coffin was taken from the royal palace to Oslo Cathedral.
The procession began with a 21-gun salute. Harald’s son, King Haakon VIII, and senior members of the royal family followed the coffin, which was draped in the red Norwegian royal standard.
Harald died on 28 August aged 89 after 35 years on the throne. Al Jazeera described him as Europe’s oldest reigning monarch and reported that he had modernised the royal house.
Haakon VIII became king immediately after his father’s death and last week swore an oath of allegiance to Norway’s constitution in parliament.
