Nintendo unveils new Switch 2 bundles ahead of September price rise
The Japanese firm has introduced two new hardware packages, including a Mario Kart World edition and a Sports Resort bundle, just days before the console’s standalone price increases by $50.
Nintendo has revealed two new Nintendo Switch 2 bundles, positioning them as value options for consumers ahead of a scheduled price increase for the console. The announcements, made in August, come just days before the device’s standalone price rises by $50 on 1 September, moving from $450 to $500.
The first package is a revamped Mario Kart World bundle, priced at $550. This represents a $50 increase over the original launch bundle. The package includes a digital copy of the game and a 90-day individual Nintendo Switch Online membership, a feature that was absent from the initial launch version. Nintendo states that this bundle will be available in late September.
The second offering is the Nintendo Switch Sports Resort bundle, which will launch on 22 October alongside the release of the game. Priced at $530, this package also includes a digital copy of the title and a three-month online subscription. Based on the bundle pricing and the discount cited by the company, the standalone price of the Nintendo Switch Sports Resort game is estimated to be $50.
Nintendo argues that these bundles offer savings compared to purchasing the components separately after the price rise takes effect. For the Mario Kart World package, the company claims the bundle is $38 cheaper than buying the console, game, and subscription individually at the new price points. The Sports Resort bundle is described as offering a $28 discount over separate purchases.
However, the value proposition is time-sensitive. As of the announcement, purchasing the console, Mario Kart World, and a standard three-month online membership separately would cost $12 less than the new $550 bundle. The standard three-month Nintendo Switch Online membership typically costs $8, a factor that contributes to the overall bundle pricing structure.
These new packages appear to supersede a limited-time bundle announced in May, which allowed players to choose between Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, or Pokémon Pokopia. With the upcoming price adjustment, the earlier promotion is likely being phased out, shifting the market focus toward the newly defined hardware and software combinations.
