The NFL has suspended line judge Jeff Seeman for two games and referee Adrian Hill for one game over separate incidents involving players. The penalties were issued on Monday by the league’s vice-president of officiating, Ramon George.

The league said Seeman directed profanity at Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride during a game against the New York Giants. Hill appeared to yell at Minnesota Vikings linebacker Eric Wilson after an accidental collision during Minnesota’s game against the Miami Dolphins.

The suspensions mark the first time an NFL official has been suspended since 2018, when umpire Roy Ellison was placed on administrative leave for one game and fined a game check after a confrontation with a Bills player.

Suspending two officials in the same week is exceptionally rare. The last time multiple officials were suspended in the same season was 1968, according to CBS Sports.

The decisions come amid increased scrutiny of officiating this season. CBS Sports reported that 235 penalties were called on a Sunday in Week 4, citing NFLPenalties.com.
