NBA Finals Game 1 interrupted by court intrusion at Frost Bank Center
Play was halted in the fourth quarter during the San Antonio Spurs’ loss to the New York Knicks, with league regulations outlining potential penalties for the individual involved.

Play in Game 1 of the NBA Finals was briefly suspended at the Frost Bank Center when a spectator entered the court during the fourth quarter to attempt a selfie with San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama. The disruption occurred with 6:28 remaining in the contest, a period during which the New York Knicks held a 92-86 lead.
The individual, carrying a cellphone in his right hand, approached Wembanyama and Knicks centre Mitchell Robinson near the three-point line. Two security guards swiftly removed the person from the playing area. Replays indicated that Wembanyama appeared confused and smiled towards the device during the brief encounter.
Following the removal of the fan, the game faced an additional delay. Spurs guard Dylan Harper lost possession of the ball while being defended by Knicks forward Mikal Bridges. The officiating crew was unable to determine which team last controlled the ball, resulting in a jump ball at centre court, which Wembanyama won to allow play to resume.
Spurs coach Mitch Johnson minimised the significance of the incident, describing it as "much ado about nothing" and noting that security personnel handled the situation efficiently. Wembanyama, meanwhile, expressed surprise at the event, comparing it to an earlier incident involving a bat crossing the court during a January 2024 game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The New York Knicks ultimately secured the victory with a final score of 105-95. Wembanyama scored 26 points on 6-for-21 shooting, adding 12 rebounds and six turnovers, but stated he was dissatisfied with his performance. Under NBA regulations, individuals who enter the court are subject to ejection, potential bans from future events, and possible criminal charges, though it was not immediately confirmed if the fan faced arrest.
