The National Basketball Association has finalised the 2026-27 regular-season schedule, confirming a 1,230-game calendar that begins on 20 October. The league met its traditional mid-August deadline to coordinate fixtures, a process that required waiting on the outcome of LeBron James’ free agency before locking in marquee national television dates. The season tips off at 3 p.m. ET with the Boston Celtics hosting the Detroit Pistons, followed by the defending champion New York Knicks hosting the Philadelphia 76ers at 7 p.m. ET.
Opening night features significant roster changes, with James and Jaylen Brown making their debuts for Philadelphia. Brown was traded from the Celtics to the Sixers in exchange for Paul George and draft picks, a move that sets up a contentious return for the former Finals MVP when Philadelphia visits Boston. The nightcap features the Oklahoma City Thunder hosting the San Antonio Spurs, renewing a rivalry defined by last year’s Western Conference Finals.
Christmas Day will feature five marquee games, including a rematch between the Knicks and the Spurs, who met in the 2026 NBA Finals. James will face his former team, the Los Angeles Lakers, at Crypto.com Arena, a fixture that also sees him play against his son, Bronny James. The slate also includes matchups between the Heat and Celtics, the Thunder and Timberwolves, and the Nuggets and Warriors.
