Musk pitches unconfirmed Hyperloop link between Austin and San Antonio
The Boring Company says it would build the proposed project, but its route, technology, funding and regulatory backing remain unclear.
Elon Musk has pitched a proposed “precursor Hyperloop” linking Austin and San Antonio, claiming the journey between the Texas cities could be reduced to less than 30 minutes.
The Boring Company said in a social media post that it would be “excited and honoured” to build the infrastructure project. The proposal has not been confirmed as approved or funded, and no details were provided on its route, technology or development stage.
The under-30-minute journey time is Musk’s claim and has not been independently verified. The available material also does not establish whether government or transport authorities support the project.
TechCrunch reported that the proposal came in response to an AI-generated video depicting a science-fiction future. Musk reposted the video and wrote: “This is the future we shall bring into being.”
The Boring Company operates a transport system combining tunnels and surface routes in Las Vegas. However, several of its previously announced projects, including proposed tunnel systems in Chicago, Los Angeles and between New York City and Washington, D.C., have not materialised.
The company recently raised a reported US$3 billion round led by the United Arab Emirates, according to the source report.
