Munder Difflin releases open-source harness for local AI agent orchestration
The new tool allows developers to run multiple instances of command-line interface agents on their own hardware, leveraging existing subscription limits.
Munder Difflin has launched a free, open-source multi-agent harness designed to orchestrate multiple artificial intelligence agents on a user’s local machine. The tool, described by the developer as performant, enables users to run what is termed an "office of clones," allowing for the concurrent execution of multiple agent instances without reliance on a centralised cloud server.
The harness is built to integrate with existing AI subscriptions by utilising their hourly usage limits. This approach allows developers to leverage plans they already hold, potentially reducing the need for additional paid tiers or enterprise contracts to manage complex workflows.
The software supports a total of 12 command-line interface (CLI) agents. Among the explicitly named tools are Claude Code, Codex, and Copilot, with the remaining nine agents not detailed in the initial release notes. By wrapping these existing CLI agents, the harness aims to provide a unified interface for managing diverse AI capabilities.
The release highlights the growing trend of local-first AI development, where performance and data sovereignty are managed on personal hardware. By operating locally, the tool offers a degree of control over the execution environment that cloud-based alternatives may not provide.
While the "office of clones" metaphor suggests a team of identical workers, the technical reality involves running multiple instances of various AI agents.
