Morocco come back after historic Haiti goals to reach World Cup last 32
Atlas Lions finish second in Group C behind Brazil after 4-2 victory in Atlanta

Morocco have advanced to the World Cup last 32 after coming from behind to defeat Haiti 4-2 in Atlanta, securing second place in Group C behind Brazil. The victory ensures the Atlas Lions will face either the Netherlands or Japan in the next round, though they missed out on the group title on goal difference.

Haiti, appearing in their first World Cup since 1974, twice took the lead in a match that ended their 52-year goal drought at the tournament. Their first goal came from a deflection off Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, while a striking long-range effort from Wilson Isidor restored Haiti’s advantage shortly after half-time.

Morocco responded with two equalisers before the interval. Captain Achraf Hakimi, who continues to lead the side despite facing rape charges in France, scored from close range following a save by Haitian goalkeeper Johny Placide. Ismael Saibari then added his third goal of the tournament with a composed finish from a Hakimi cross.

Soufiane Rahimi provided the decisive moment in the second half, scoring a deflected effort to give Morocco the lead. Gessime Yassine sealed the victory with a final goal, capitalising on a cross from Rahimi to round off the scoring.

Brazil secured the top spot in Group C with a 3-0 victory over Scotland in Miami, a match that saw Neymar return to the squad after a three-year absence. Morocco’s boss Mohamed Ouahbi made four changes to his starting lineup compared to previous matches, with Saibari and Brahim Diaz substituted in the second half.

Haiti were already eliminated from the tournament following earlier losses to Scotland and Brazil, but their performance was celebrated by thousands of expatriates in the Atlanta stands. Morocco will now travel to Monterrey for their knockout stage encounter, pending the results of other Group C matches.
