Monza seek Napoli defender Ngonge as Allegri reshapes squad

Monza have made initial contact with Napoli regarding the availability of defender Cyril Ngonge, according to Sportitalia transfer pundit Alfredo Pedullà. The enquiry marks the latest development in Napoli’s ongoing squad restructuring under new head coach Massimiliano Allegri, who was unveiled at the Teatro di San Carlo on July 14, 2026.
The 26-year-old defender joined Napoli from Hellas Verona in January 2024 for a fee of €20m. However, he has struggled to establish himself in the first team, spending the previous season on loan at Torino and Espanyol. During his time at those clubs, Ngonge made 32 competitive appearances, scoring one goal and providing four assists.
Napoli are currently navigating a period of financial constraint that requires them to generate revenue through player sales before committing to new acquisitions. The club recently secured a boost by selling Romelu Lukaku to Fenerbahce for €6m plus add-ons. Despite this inflow, the club is already preparing to reinvest, having agreed to a loan deal for Chelsea defender Benoit Badiashile for €3m plus €1m in add-ons, with an option to buy for €27m at the end of the season.
Allegri’s project necessitates a reduction in squad size, and Ngonge’s contract, which runs until June 2028, makes him a potential asset for disposal. While Monza are currently situated in Serie B, any potential move for Ngonge could be structured as a loan with an option to buy, potentially becoming an obligation if Monza secure promotion back to Serie A.
The prospect of a move to Serie B remains a significant hurdle. Ngonge has previously been linked with Palermo but was reportedly reticent about accepting a transfer to the second tier. It remains unclear whether Monza’s enquiry has progressed beyond initial contact or if a formal offer has been tabled.
