Mohammad Rizwan challenges cyber agency summons in Lahore court
The wicketkeeper-batter is contesting the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency’s summons and jurisdiction after Pakistan’s Test series loss in England.
Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan has filed a writ petition in the Lahore High Court challenging summons issued by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency, including the agency’s jurisdiction to investigate the matter.
Rizwan appeared before the NCCIA last week after he and fellow batter Imam-ul-Haq were called for questioning following Pakistan’s 3-0 Test series loss in England. His petition reportedly raises concerns that there is no specific allegation against him and challenges the basis of the investigation.
The players were given detailed questionnaires after appearing at the agency’s Lahore office. The questionnaires are believed to have sought information about travel and financial history, as well as personal and professional details. The available material does not establish the reason for the NCCIA inquiry or whether it is connected to another investigation.
The case is separate from an internal disciplinary inquiry announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board after media reports concerning player discipline and conduct. The PCB said that process was being conducted under its regulations.
The NCCIA summons and court challenge come amid substantial changes to Pakistan’s team following the England tour. Seven players were sent home, replacements were brought into the squad, and head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul were removed.
