MM Board & Paper expands packaging portfolio with lightweight kraft paper

MM Board & Paper has introduced MM POLAR PLUS, a new machine-finished bleached kraft paper designed for food and non-food packaging applications. Manufactured at the company’s mill in Kwidzyn, Poland, the product is available in grammages of 40g/m², 45g/m², and 50g/m². The launch targets converters and packaging manufacturers requiring lower-weight paper with consistent quality and processing performance.

The material is intended for use in bakery bags, fast-food packaging, food wrapping papers, single-use pouches, and small bags. It can serve as a substrate for polyethylene coating, film lamination, and other barrier treatments. According to the company, any added grease, moisture, or oxygen resistance is derived from these coatings or laminations, while the paper itself provides the necessary surface and processing properties for further conversion.

Produced from 100% elemental chlorine-free (ECF) virgin fibres, the paper offers options for food-contact applications. MM Board & Paper states that the material features a smooth surface and good formation, ensuring runnability across printing, coating, varnishing, and bag-making operations.

Markus Nöcker, sales vice-president for MM Board & Paper UFP and PKP, said the product extends the MM POLAR family into lighter grammages. He noted this gives customers more flexibility for applications where material efficiency, converting performance, and food-contact suitability are important factors.

This release follows the introduction of ALASKA BRIGHT NEW earlier this year, a folding boxboard produced at MM Kotkamills in Finland. That product is available for applications including cosmetics, dry food, graphical work, healthcare, and personal care products.
