Mike Tomlin names Josh Allen as quarterback he would most like to coach
The former Steelers coach praised the Buffalo Bills quarterback’s ability as a passer and runner while making clear no coaching move has been confirmed.
Former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has identified Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen as the player he would most like to coach, calling him “built for this”.
Tomlin made the comments during an appearance on the PFF NFL Show. He praised Allen’s ability to influence games with both his arm and his legs.
Tomlin stepped away from the Steelers after 19 seasons and is working as an analyst during the 2026 NFL season. His decision has nevertheless prompted speculation about a possible return if a high-profile coaching vacancy emerges.
Allen, 30, has played eight NFL seasons and won the 2024 MVP award, according to Yahoo Sports. Tomlin acknowledged that describing Allen as a young quarterback stretches the definition.
There has been no confirmation that Tomlin will coach Allen or join the Bills. The prospect appears unlikely in the near term, with Tomlin’s coaching future still speculative.
