Microsoft unveils limited-edition Xbox Series X for 25th anniversary
The special edition hardware honours the brand’s original aesthetic while retaining standard performance specs, as Microsoft marks a quarter-century of gaming.

Microsoft has launched a limited-edition Xbox Series X console to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Xbox brand. The special edition unit features a translucent green design for both the console and controller, drawing inspiration from the original Xbox hardware. The console retains the standard 1 TB storage capacity and performance of the regular Xbox Series X. Both the console and controller are scheduled for release in November.
The anniversary-edition console includes an Xbox button that lights up green and a translucent green controller. The Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition respects the brand's history, combining the power and performance of the current generation with a design that reflects its origins. The 'X' on the front of the console lights up green when powered on, accompanied by a 25th anniversary logo.
Jason Ronald, VP of next generation, stated the design respects the brand's history and the community. “For the first time, we’re bringing a translucent design to Xbox Series X, drawing inspiration from the original Xbox and OG Green so many players remember,” Ronald explained. He noted that the design reflects where the company has been and the community that has supported it along the way.
The controller includes original ABXY button colours and bumpers that honour the black and white buttons found on the original 'Duke' controller. The controller’s back case and battery door are fully transparent, revealing the classic Xbox logo. While the design honours the original 'Duke' controller's aesthetic, the internal mechanics and shape may differ from the legacy hardware.
An exact release date and pricing have not yet been announced. The items are scheduled for release in November, though specific pricing and an exact launch date have not yet been disclosed by Microsoft. This release follows recent announcements regarding the cross-platform launch of Halo: Campaign Evolved, which is set to arrive on July 28.
