Memphis-area football poll puts offensive standouts to a reader vote
The Commercial Appeal has selected nominees for its midseason poll on the 2026 TSSAA season. Voting closes 3 October at 5 p.m.
The Commercial Appeal has opened a reader poll asking who has been the top Memphis-area high school offensive football player at the midpoint of the 2026 TSSAA season. The newspaper selected players from area schools for consideration.
The nominees include quarterbacks, running backs and receivers. Among the performances listed, Lakeland Prep quarterback Brett Godwin has 1,578 passing yards and 20 touchdowns, while Melrose running back Reginald Banks has 772 rushing yards and eight touchdowns.
Other cited totals include Briarcrest quarterback Cayden Dixon’s 848 passing yards and 13 touchdowns, and Houston’s Canon Day accounting for 16 touchdowns through passing and rushing.
The poll also features players from Arlington, Bartlett, Christian Brothers, Collierville, Lausanne, Memphis Central, MUS, Southwind and St. George’s. The supplied profile of Whitehaven quarterback Jour’din Shelton is incomplete.
