Jones says Cowboys’ late-game errors require review
Dallas lost 34–31 to Baltimore in Brazil after a late field goal tied the game. Coach Brian Schottenheimer accepted responsibility for clock management and an instruction to Dak Prescott.
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says the team’s coaching staff must assess its final-minute decisions after a 34–31 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Brazil. Speaking to 105.3 the Fan, Jones said there was no explanation for the mistakes that he would find satisfactory, but said the staff was evaluating how to avoid repeating them.
Coach Brian Schottenheimer took responsibility for using a timeout with 14 seconds remaining and for directing quarterback Dak Prescott to throw to George Pickens or throw the ball away on third down. Schottenheimer said he had over-coached Prescott.
Prescott threw the ball away, and Dallas settled for a field goal that tied the game at 31. Baltimore had seven seconds after the ensuing kickoff and won with a 56-yard field goal.
Jones said the team could not recover the lost opportunity and needed to learn from the sequence. He expressed optimism about the season and gave no indication of planned coaching changes.
Dallas entered Week 4 with a 1–2 record, according to CBS Sports.
