Play at the Memorial Tournament’s third round was suspended on Saturday after leaders J.T. Poston and Ryan Gerard reached the sixth green, setting the stage for an extended final day at Muirfield Village. The interruption means the leaders are scheduled to play more than 30 holes on Sunday to complete the tournament, a logistical challenge that Johnson Wagner, playing in the final group, suggested may favour those with the most holes remaining.

Wagner, who spoke to Scorecard on CBS, described the atmosphere around the leaders as surreal, noting that spectators had concentrated heavily around high-profile stars Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler in the final group. Wagner described the sparse crowds following the leaders as "weird," observing that attention was fixed on the world number one, who has won the tournament for the last two years.

Scheffler’s performance on Saturday was notable, with the 29-year-old playing five under par through a six-hole stretch to reach three under par for the tournament. However, two bogeys on his last three holes of the day tempered his standing. He is currently eight shots off the lead, alongside McIlroy, who is also one under par for the tournament.

The rain that caused the suspension transformed the course into a test resembling a US Open setup, but Wagner predicted significantly softer conditions for Sunday. He suggested that this change in turf may benefit Poston and Gerard, who have the advantage of playing on easier ground for the remainder of their round, whereas McIlroy might "run out of holes" as the course becomes more forgiving.

Tommy Fleetwood is tied for fifth place as the field prepares to resume play in Ohio. With the leaders facing a marathon schedule, the outcome remains open, though Wagner noted he would not be surprised if Scheffler made a run in the morning session given his recent success at the venue.
