Mecka AI is nearing a funding round led by Sequoia Capital at a valuation of approximately US$500 million, according to two people familiar with the deal, as investors back companies building data sets for robotics.

The round has not been finalised. Its size, valuation and terms could still change, and the financing has not been confirmed as completed.

The prospective deal comes three months after Mecka announced a US$60 million Series A led by Framework Ventures, with participation from Menlo Ventures, SV Angel and Kindred Ventures.

Founded in 2024, Mecka collects and analyses human-motion data to train humanoid and other robots. It pays people to record everyday tasks, including making coffee and fixing cars, using body sensors and smartphones.

The company’s approach is intended to address a shortage of physical-world data used to develop general-purpose robots. Other companies collecting real-world robotics data include XDOF, Scale AI and Micro1.

TechCrunch reported the prospective Sequoia-led round. Mecka AI did not respond to a request for comment, while Sequoia declined to comment.
