Maye’s impatience hands Seahawks season-opening win
Drake Maye accepted responsibility after throwing three interceptions, including a decisive end-zone pick, in New England’s 13–10 loss to Seattle.
New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye blamed impatience and poor decisions after his side opened the NFL season with a 13–10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
Maye threw three interceptions, with the final turnover coming in the end zone with 21 seconds remaining. Seahawks cornerback Josh Jobe made the decisive play, ending New England’s chance to attempt a game-tying field goal.
“I lost patience and cost us,” Maye said after the match, according to Fox Sports. He described his performance as unacceptable and said he needed to improve.
Maye completed 23 of 33 passes for 178 yards and one touchdown, recording a 54.9 passer rating. He also rushed for 47 yards.
The Patriots lost wide receiver A.J. Brown to an ankle injury in the third quarter, with no further details provided. Seattle also lost starting quarterback Sam Darnold during its opening possession, but Drew Lock led the Seahawks to victory.
New England’s next listed match is a home fixture against the Pittsburgh Steelers on 20 September.
