The Miami Marlins utilised a seven-pitcher bullpen strategy to secure a 4-3 victory over the AL East-leading Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday, halting a four-game losing streak for the visiting club and ending a series-opening defeat for Miami. The win was anchored by Javier Sanoja’s offensive output and a critical defensive stand by closer Tyler Zuber in the ninth inning.

Sanoja provided the early offensive spark, recording a home run and two singles. His lead-off fifth-inning 363-foot drive to left field against Rays starter Shane McClanahan helped Miami establish a 4-1 lead. The Marlins’ pitching staff maintained control through the middle innings, with starter Lake Bachar delivering three perfect innings and striking out three batters.

The Rays’ attempt to salvage the series was thwarted by a late rally that fell short. In the ninth inning, closer Pete Fairbanks allowed a walk and a wild pitch that scored Ben Williamson, followed by an RBI single from Yandy Díaz to narrow the gap to 4-3. However, with the bases loaded, Fairbanks exited and Zuber entered to strike out Junior Caminero, recording his first career save.

John King earned the win for Miami, improving his record to 3-1 after securing the final two outs. The Marlins recorded 10 hits in the game, a significant improvement from the two hits managed in Friday’s series opener. Additional contributions came from Joe Mack, who hit a run-scoring double, and Otto Lopez, who singled twice.

The series concludes on Sunday with Rays right-handed pitcher Griffin Jax facing Marlins right-handed pitcher Sandy Alcantara. Jax holds a 1-4 record with a 4.76 ERA, while Alcantara enters the contest with a 4-4 record and a 4.59 ERA.
