Mariners halt losing streak with dominant performance against White Sox
Seattle secures 6-1 victory in Seattle, ending a three-game slide with strong pitching and timely hitting from prospect Colt Emerson and Julio Rodríguez.

The Seattle Mariners concluded a three-game losing streak with a 6-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Monday night, anchored by a commanding pitching performance from Bryan Woo. The win was secured in Seattle, where the Mariners’ defense and bullpen held firm after early offensive contributions set the tone for the contest.
Woo (4-2) delivered six shutout innings, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out eight batters. He demonstrated efficiency by throwing 60 of his 90 pitches for strikes and retired his final 11 batters in a row. His performance improved his season record to 4-2, providing a stable foundation for the offense to build upon.
The Mariners took an early lead in the first inning when Julio Rodríguez hit a solo home run off White Sox pitcher Noah Schultz. Rodríguez’s eighth homer of the season put Seattle ahead for good, and Schultz’s record fell to 2-3 as a result of the outing. The offensive momentum continued in the third inning when Jhonny Pereda was hit by a pitch and subsequently scored on a double by Randy Arozarena following a ruling that White Sox shortstop Colson Montgomery had impeded Pereda’s progress rounding second base.
Prospect Colt Emerson, the Mariners’ top pick in the 2023 amateur draft, recorded his first major league hit in the eighth inning. The 20-year-old third baseman launched a three-run home run off Trevor Richards, extending the lead to 6-1. Emerson, who recently signed an eight-year, $95 million contract—the largest for a minor league player with no major league experience—had his family in the stands for his second game after they missed his debut on Sunday.
The White Sox managed only a single run in the seventh inning when Eduard Bazardo allowed a leadoff home run to Tristan Peters. The Mariners’ bullpen, featuring José A. Ferrer and Andrés Muñoz, closed out the final three innings without allowing any further runs. Josh Naylor contributed to the offensive effort, going 3 for 4 with two stolen bases. The White Sox will look to rebound on Tuesday when Anthony Kay (3-1, 4.61 ERA) starts against Mariners right-hander Bryce Miller (0-0, 3.38).
