Mandhana record and Verma century send India into Asian Games final
India defeated Bangladesh by 114 runs and will meet Sri Lanka for the gold medal after Sri Lanka beat Pakistan by eight wickets.
India have reached the Asian Games women’s cricket final after defeating Bangladesh by 114 runs, with Smriti Mandhana setting a reported women’s T20 international run-scoring record.
Mandhana made 37 from 19 balls as India scored 195-4 in 20 overs. Al Jazeera reported that the innings took her career total to 4,788 women’s T20I runs, surpassing New Zealand’s Suzie Bates on 4,758.
Shafali Verma led India’s batting with an unbeaten 100 from 49 balls, described as her maiden T20 hundred. She reached the milestone from the final ball of India’s innings.
Bangladesh were dismissed for 81 in 15.4 overs, completing India’s 114-run victory in the semifinal.
India will play Sri Lanka in Tuesday’s gold-medal match. Sri Lanka reached the final with an eight-wicket win over Pakistan, chasing 178 with 13 balls to spare after captain Chamari Athapaththu made 83 not out.
Pakistan will meet Bangladesh in the bronze-medal match, also scheduled for Tuesday.
