Manchester United reportedly rejects academy teenager’s request to leave

Manchester United academy forward JJ Gabriel has reportedly asked to leave the club, with his camp sending a formal letter on Monday requesting his de-registration.
The Athletic reports that United will not agree to cancel the 15-year-old’s contract, which is due to run until next summer. The terms could leave Gabriel unable to play for much of the year if no agreement is reached.
Gabriel had been regarded as one of the most gifted teenage prospects at United’s Carrington academy and was reportedly expected to make his first-team debut against Brighton on Wednesday.
Real Madrid is reportedly well-positioned to sign Gabriel, while Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are also understood to be interested. The available reports do not establish that any club has made a formal offer.
Clear-the-air talks may be held to seek a short-term resolution. Gabriel’s reason for requesting a departure, and whether he is currently training or playing for United, remain unclear.
