Manchester Super Giants secure second place on net run-rate after routing SunRisers Leeds

Manchester Super Giants have moved to the cusp of The Hundred men’s eliminator following a comprehensive victory over SunRisers Leeds, a result that reshuffles the group table standings. The Super Giants restricted SunRisers to 127 all out from their allocated 100 balls, securing a dominant win that allows them to overtake their opponents in the rankings.

England’s Gus Atkinson led the bowling attack with figures of 3-30, supported by Sonny Baker who claimed 2-22. In response, opening batters Tim Seifert and Paul Walter guided Manchester to the target with 33 balls to spare. Seifert remained unbeaten on 80 from 40 balls, while Walter contributed 44 not out from 28 deliveries, ensuring a comfortable margin of victory.

The win places Manchester Super Giants in second position in the group table, edging ahead of SunRisers Leeds on net run-rate despite both sides finishing on 20 points. The result effectively sets up a potential clash between the two sides in Friday’s eliminator, where the winner will advance to the final.

The outcome also confirms Trent Rockets’ place in Sunday’s final as table-toppers. With the top two positions largely settled, the focus shifts to the teams contesting the eliminator spot, with Manchester and SunRisers positioned to meet for the final berth.

Fourth-placed MI London and fifth-placed Welsh Fire enter their final group-stage matches on Wednesday with 16 points each. While Welsh Fire’s negative net run-rate of -1.001 makes it almost impossible for them to catch the top contenders, MI London could feasibly move into second or third place with a significant win against Birmingham Phoenix.

Welsh Fire face London Spirit at 3pm, followed by MI London’s trip to Edgbaston at 6.30pm. The Hundred finals are scheduled to take place on Sunday, 16 August, with all matches broadcast live on Sky Sports and available to stream contract-free on NOW.
