Maresca’s City tenure begins with five-match winning run

Enzo Maresca has made a strong early start as Manchester City manager, winning the club’s first five Premier League and Champions League matches of the season after replacing Pep Guardiola.

Maresca’s response to the dismissal was among the factors highlighted in the report. He delayed major changes before shifting Rayan Cherki to the right and replacing him at half-time with Iliman Ndiaye.
The former Chelsea and Leicester manager has also altered elements of City’s training, including introducing loud house music, while retaining aspects of the methods established under Guardiola. Captain Ruben Dias said pressing, defending and training had changed, but that continuity remained in the club’s approach.
City’s winning run followed a 3-0 defeat by Arsenal in the Community Shield. They are scheduled to begin their Carabao Cup defence against Norwich before hosting Sunderland in the Premier League, with the fixtures offering an early test of Maresca’s transition from Guardiola’s tenure.
