Macron condemns intensified Russian strikes on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure
After speaking with Volodymyr Zelensky, France’s president said they had reviewed European support for Ukraine’s air defences. Romanian authorities reported two deaths after a grain ship caught fire and sank in the Black Sea.

French President Emmanuel Macron condemned intensified Russian strikes on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure after a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to France 24 International. Macron said the leaders reviewed concrete European support to help Ukraine intercept drones and defend itself. The report did not specify what support was discussed or say a new package had been agreed.
Macron called the strikes “irresponsible” and said France would not yield to Russia’s escalation. Russia had announced it would step up attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure as winter approaches. Ukraine has repeatedly sought stronger air-defence weapons from Western allies.
The call came as a Turkish-owned grain ship caught fire and sank in the Black Sea. Zelensky said two Russian drones struck the civilian vessel, which was carrying corn. The report provided no independent confirmation of the attack’s cause.
Romanian authorities said two crew members died and 11 were rescued. Zelensky said the ship’s captain was among those killed.
