Mac Allister ‘very sad’ as Liverpool contract renewal remains unresolved
The Liverpool midfielder says he had options to leave in the summer but remains committed to the club, with almost two years left on his current deal.
Alexis Mac Allister says he is “very sad” that Liverpool have not offered him a new contract, while insisting he remains committed to the club.
Speaking before Liverpool’s Champions League match against Atletico Madrid, Mac Allister said the club had told his agent it was not in a position to offer a renewal. He said he had options to leave during the summer but believed he was currently at the right club.
Mac Allister joined Liverpool from Brighton on a five-year contract in June 2023 and has almost two years remaining on his deal. His comments follow new contracts for team-mates Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch this year.
The midfielder helped Liverpool win the 2024-25 Premier League title and made 55 appearances last season. He acknowledged that the previous campaign had been below his own and the team’s standards.
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola described Mac Allister as an important player whom he rates highly. Iraola said there was still plenty of time to discuss the club’s contract situations.
BBC Sport reports that Liverpool’s hierarchy decided against offering Mac Allister a new deal after last season’s performance. The timing and outcome of any future discussions remain uncertain, but Mac Allister said he would continue giving his best for the club.
