Mac Allister says Liverpool contract uncertainty has left him ‘very sad’
The Liverpool midfielder says the club told his agent it could not offer a renewal, while confirming he has two years remaining on his current deal.
Alexis Mac Allister says he is “very sad” after Liverpool told his agent the club was not in a position to offer him a new contract.
The 27-year-old midfielder, who joined Liverpool in 2023, said he has two years remaining on his current deal. His comments came before the club’s Champions League match against Atletico Madrid.
Mac Allister said he had options to leave Liverpool during the summer but considered the club the right place for him and remained committed to giving his best.
His situation contrasts with fellow midfielders Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch, who have signed new long-term contracts. Mac Allister said he was pleased for both players but disappointed that he had not received a renewal.
Asked whether discussions over a new deal were continuing, Mac Allister said there “maybe” could be talks but that he did not know whether they were ongoing. He indicated that any decision could depend on his performances during the season.
He said there had been no direct conversation with him about the decision, with the information communicated through his agent. Liverpool has not been reported as having agreed a new contract or decided to sell him.
