LSU climbs to No. 8 as Michigan falls out of AP Top 25
LSU returned to the AP poll’s top 10 after a 51–10 win over Clemson, while Michigan was dropped from the rankings despite a last-second victory.
LSU has risen from No. 11 to No. 8 in the first regular-season Associated Press Top 25 college football poll after its 51–10 defeat of Clemson.
The result, described by ESPN as one of Week 1’s strongest, marked LSU’s return to the top 10 for the first time since it was ranked No. 4 after a 4–0 start last season. The win came in Lane Kiffin’s debut in Baton Rouge.
Michigan, meanwhile, fell from No. 16 out of the rankings despite beating Western Michigan 13–12. The Wolverines secured the victory after one second was restored to the clock, giving Bryce Underwood another chance to throw a Hail Mary, which was caught by JJ Buchanan.
Ohio State retained No. 1 by a wide margin ahead of its matchup with No. 4 Texas. Oregon fell from No. 2 to No. 6 after beating Boise State 34–27, while Oklahoma moved to No. 11 following LSU’s promotion.
Virginia entered the poll at No. 25. The Cavaliers’ ranking followed their Week 0 win over NC State.
