Liverpool advance concrete talks for Hertha Berlin’s Kennet Eichhorn
Regulatory age restrictions mean any transfer would not be immediate, with the teenager’s release clause estimated at €10-12 million.

Liverpool have reportedly entered the race to sign Hertha Berlin midfielder Kennet Eichhorn, with Sky Germany describing the negotiations as “very concrete”. Journalist Florian Plettenberg has confirmed that contacts between all parties are already underway, signalling a shift from speculative interest to active discussions regarding a potential future move.
The 16-year-old is expected to depart Hertha Berlin this summer, subject to the activation of a release clause believed to be valued between €10 million and €12 million. Eichhorn has rapidly established himself in the Hertha first team, earning senior minutes in the 2. Bundesliga despite an ankle injury that disrupted parts of his season. He has made 17 appearances for the club, drawing comparisons in the German press to former Real Madrid and Bayern Munich star Toni Kroos due to his composure, passing range, and tactical awareness.
However, any immediate transfer to Anfield is precluded by current international regulations, which prohibit the international transfer of players under the age of 18. Consequently, while the groundwork for the deal is being laid, Eichhorn would not be eligible to join Liverpool until he turns 18. This regulatory constraint means the club is effectively securing a long-term asset rather than an immediate squad addition.
The development represents a notable setback for Bayern Munich, who have been tracking the teenager closely in recent months. Liverpool’s advanced position in the negotiations is viewed as a significant obstacle for the Bavarian club, complicating their efforts to secure one of Germany’s brightest emerging prospects.
Despite the competitive landscape, the focus remains on the structural progression of the deal. With talks described as concrete by Sky Germany, the priority for Liverpool is navigating the regulatory timeline while ensuring the financial terms align with the estimated release clause. The outcome of these negotiations will determine whether Eichhorn continues his development in the 2. Bundesliga or begins the process of transitioning to the English Premier League framework upon reaching the required age.
