Tickets for the Team Championship in Michigan have been removed from the official website following reports that players were informed of the cancellation, though no official statement has been issued by the organisation.
Tickets for LIV Golf’s season-ending Team Championship in Michigan are no longer available for purchase on the league’s official website, coinciding with reports that the event scheduled for 27–30 August has been cancelled. As of Thursday morning, the LIV Golf website displayed a message stating that grounds and hospitality passes for the Michigan event were “no longer available”, despite the tournament still being listed in the schedule.
The Telegraph reported on Wednesday that players had been informed the event would not take place. However, LIV Golf has not made an official announcement regarding the status of the competition, leaving the situation unconfirmed. Sky Sports has contacted both LIV Golf and the event host, The Cardinal at Saint John's Resort, for comment regarding the discrepancy between the website status and the internal communications.
The cancellation reports emerge against a backdrop of significant structural uncertainty for the league. Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) announced in April that it would end its financing of LIV Golf at the conclusion of the 2026 season. This withdrawal has left the league searching for new investors to sustain operations beyond the current calendar year.
Amid this financial transition, LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil announced last week that the league had reached an agreement with a new unnamed ‘lead investor’ to provide funding for the 2027 season. O’Neil stated that a term sheet had been signed and that the finalisation of the deal was expected later this month, though the status of this agreement remains pending.
Player sentiment regarding the Michigan event has been mixed. Cameron Smith, speaking at the recent LIV Golf New York event where Jon Rahm secured his third successive individual title, stated that players had been told to prepare as though the championship would proceed. Smith expressed personal uncertainty about the event's status but noted that the league had a successful year in Detroit the previous year.
Meanwhile, Bryson DeChambeau, alongside Rahm, led a player meeting to discuss the future of the league ahead of the New York event, highlighting the internal focus on governance and continuity. While the Michigan Team Championship status remains unclear, tickets for the subsequent Indianapolis event, which concludes the league's individual season, remain on sale as normal.
