Pope Leo XIV celebrated an open-air Mass at Place de la Concorde in central Paris on Saturday, during the second day of his four-day visit to France. France 24 reported that hundreds of thousands of believers attended.
Almost 600,000 people had registered for the event, but the report gave no verified final crowd figure. Thousands had queued to enter the secured area, with some arriving from dawn.
Before the service, Leo travelled about two kilometres along the Champs-Élysées in his popemobile. The Mass was the main public event of the day’s programme.
Attendees told France 24 the gathering offered a chance to express and share their faith. The scale of the event brought public worship into the centre of the pope’s Paris visit.
