Le Creuset launches Star Trek cookware collection with stratospheric stunt

The limited-edition range includes themed cookware and utensils, while an Enterprise casserole dish was reportedly carried more than 111,000 feet above Earth by balloon.

Le Creuset has launched a limited-edition Star Trek cookware and kitchenware collection marking the franchise’s 60th anniversary, following several years of development after the company approached Paramount.

The range includes an Enterprise casserole pot, a Klingon shallow casserole dish and a Galileo shuttlecraft casserole dish. Accessories include a Communi-grator cheese grater, a Spock ear mug, a spoon rest and a Vulcan-salute oven mitt.

Listed prices range from $35 for the Spock ear mug to $500 for the Enterprise casserole pot. The collection also includes the $68 Communi-grator, a $450 Klingon shallow casserole dish and a $150 Galileo shuttlecraft casserole dish.

As part of the launch, Le Creuset engaged Sent Into Space to carry the cast-iron Enterprise dish by balloon to more than 111,000 feet above Earth. WIRED reported that the dish spent 1 hour, 19 minutes and 4 seconds in the stratosphere, encountered temperatures as low as -63.4°C and exceeded 300 mph during re-entry before landing safely in Lincolnshire, England.

Sent Into Space said the stunt required balancing the dish, coordinating with aviation authorities and using telemetry, communications and parachute recovery systems. Le Creuset’s 2024 Pokémon collection reportedly sold rapidly, with some items later resold above their original retail prices.
