Lakers to unveil Phil Jackson statue on 9 April 2027
The former coach will become the ninth Lakers figure honoured with a statue after leading Los Angeles to five championships across two stints.
The Los Angeles Lakers are reported to unveil a statue honouring former coach Phil Jackson on 9 April 2027, marking his contribution to one of the most successful periods in the club’s history.
The reported announcement, attributed to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, includes a statement from Lakers acting governor Jeanie Buss recognising Jackson’s role in restoring the club’s championship record. Jackson led Los Angeles to five titles across two coaching stints.
Jackson coached the Lakers from 1999 to 2004 and again from 2005 to 2011. His teams won three consecutive championships from 2000 to 2002, followed by back-to-back titles in 2009 and 2010.
The statue will make Jackson the ninth Lakers figure to receive the honour. He will join Shaquille O’Neal, Kobe Bryant, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Elgin Baylor, Magic Johnson, Jerry West, Pat Riley and Chick Hearn.
Jackson won 11 NBA championships as a head coach and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007.
