The Los Angeles Lakers will unveil a statue honouring Phil Jackson at Star Plaza outside Crypto.com Arena before their 9 April 2027 game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to CBS Sports.

Jackson coached the Lakers for 11 seasons, guiding the team to seven NBA Finals and five championships. His tenure included the NBA’s most recent three-peat, from 2000 to 2002.

The statue will make Jackson the ninth Lakers figure commemorated at Star Plaza. The existing honourees are Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Elgin Baylor, Kobe Bryant, Chick Hearn, Magic Johnson, Shaquille O’Neal, Pat Riley and Jerry West.

Jackson was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007. He also won six championships as coach of the Chicago Bulls.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place before the Lakers’ game against Minnesota. The source does not indicate whether the date or arrangements may change.
